Students Promoting Environmental Action in Texas

students promoting environmental actionMission Possible is of a group of teenage students in Brazoria County, Texas, who wish to promote environmental change. This change, of course, is for the better and they currently have an important project that is underway. Recently, the students were taken out to the Old Brazos River in order to determine which abandoned shrimp boat they would like to remove from the water.

This group was created two years ago, and these students are obviously enthusiastic about what they are doing. Rather than being confined to a classroom on Wednesday, the students were taken for a ride on the Old Brazos River with the help of some environmental officials. The teacher of the students, Molly McCormick, had a few words to say about the current project.

“From an educational standpoint, this is the kind of thing that motivates kids,” McCormick mentioned. “They learn much more in this kind of atmosphere than in a classroom.”

I certainly agree, keeping in mind that a hands-on learning experience like this one is a priceless form of education that not everyone is able to take advantage of. It is also very refreshing to see students promoting environmental action at such a young age. I hope to hear more and more about what Mission Possible and other similar groups are doing to promote environmental awareness.
