Environmental Protection Agency in Ghana

environmental protection agency in ghanaOne of the problems that the country of Ghana is currently facing is desertification, and hopefully members of the EPA and other various organizations can have some impact on how it is handled. Kwadwo Adjei-Darko, the minister of Ghana's local government who is handling environmental issues, has created a committee of individuals from various agencies and NGO's who will help implement the Ghana Environmental Management Project.

The GEMP is focused on reviving the land in the northern part of the nation in order to promote economic prosperity in communities and local institutions. This project, which has a duration of 5 years, has already been provided $201,403 in international funds from the nation of Canada alone. The Environmental Protection Agency in Ghana was one of the various organizations from which committee members were selected.

The initial goal of the GEMP and its National Action Program is to ensure that the EPA is able to perform its duties with all means that are necessary. Once financing and clearance have both been granted, the project will then shift gears towards combating desertification and land degradation.

As many of you know, desertification is a problem that can only get worse progressively. Protecting natural vegetation is crucial to ensuring that land will continue to produce crops, and this issue is certainly prevalent worldwide. What initiatives do you think should be taken to combat a problem like desertification?
